Long story short I purchased this 4.8 liter to putt around town in the 280z. Problem is I’ve got a T56 and this won’t work unless I change a few things which I’m not willing to do. However, While this engine may not be good to go for a T56 it would work great with any older style transmisison , Power Glide, T350 ,T400. 700R4 , or 4L80E.

The price is right at just $400 bucks. Engine is located in Dallas Fort Worth Texas. Currently sitting in the car running like a top with ZERO issues.. I paid 550 for it 6 Months ago with 98k miles.

Why wont it work with the t56? Is it an LT1 style?

The 4.8 is a bit of a turd stock, but is great for FI applications.

I couldn’t give you a technical answer but put it this way .. Everything is hooked up correctly right now the motor runs and runs well. But the car won’t move. Clutch feels like it’s working fine but isn’t ... So I’m 95% it’s the size of the input shaft on the trans is a cunt hair off by a few splines. I read online that the 99-00 truck motors don’t work with the
T56 transmission and then after 00 GM figured why not make this easier for everyone.

I just did a bit of reading too. Some of the 99-00 truck motors have a slightly longer crank flange, so it doesnt line up properly.

There you have it . Sucks to suck for me .. Had I done more research I wouldn’t have this issue.

She is in phase two at my friends right now, new big radiator, top springs for each carb and a big ITG filter instead of the K&N individuals. I have a rear disk kit, some other stuff. When she is ready I will do a post. Maybe I can make a YouTube recording, I don’t have a go pro but we’ll see what I can do, my dslr Pentax has video.
